Part one of how to look after a kitten

Your kitten may not look like the lord of the jungle, but he or she is built with the same equipment as a tiger or a leopard. As an essentially predatory carnivore now adapting to easy life that awaits it in your home, its body is still designed for life in the wild.

How to look after a kitten

For the first 2 to 3  weeks, new born kittens are not able urinate or defecate without being stimulated by the mother cat. The kitens are also unable to keep their body temperature maintained by them selves for the first three to four weeks, so kittens born in temperature of less than 20 degrees are at risk of death if they are not kept warm by the mother, the mother cat will already know how to look after a kitten.

Now that you have a new addition to your household there are several things you will need to consider these are:-

What should i feed a kitten

The mother cat usually helps out with training and basic instinct will help her know how to look after a kitten.

Kittens will usually feed from the mother for around 4 to 6 weeks so solid food should be available from around this time. Ready made kitten food can be purchased from the supermarket and these usually already contain a good  balanced diet for your kitten.

A good way to supplement your kitten’s diet  is with cuts of fresh meat or fish but remember that these by cuts of meet will not give the kitten all of the nutrients it will need.

What should i give my kitten to drink?

A lot of people think they already know how to look after a kitten and so they given them cows milk, this can be fatal, Water is the best thing to give your kitten, Do not give a kitten cows milk as it can be very harmful for to them. Your local pet store will usually sell kitten milk, but in my opinion water will be just fine if they have a good food diet. Again the mother cat will instinctively know how to look after a kitten and so she will give help with the feeding.
